Collage, decorative art, drawing, installation art, painting, photography, sculpture, print making and video arts are just part of the many forms we classify as visual arts.
The greater Dayton region offers ample opportunity to explore visual arts across the spectrum. Numerous galleries, two high quality art museums and a steady stream of special exhibits displayed throughout the community provide year round chances to explore the work of famous world artists and local producing artists from every angle and every period.
The Dayton Art Institute houses an extensive permanent collection and consistently ranks in the top ten percent of museums nationwide. Look for special world class exhibits annually at this museum recently voted the third most child friendly arts museum in the nation by Child Magazine.
Numerous for-profit and nonprofit galleries exhibit and sell the work of regional artists. Visit the Dayton Visual Arts Center, a large consortium of 450+ local artists who exhibit their work throughout the year and open shop for purchases during ARTtoBUY twice a year. Cannery Art & Design Center and Town & Country Fine Art Gallery both sell regional artists work on a permanent basis.
Look for special exhibits and special events related to visual arts on the arts calendar. Remember – art makes a great one-of-a-kind gift!
